Crane Orchards

According to the orchard’s website, the 200-acre Crane Orchards property has been run by the Crane family since 1917, being passed down for generations since H.B. and Muriel Crane purchased first purchased the land.

Michigan apples are in no shortage here, along with peaches and sweet cherries. Nearly 20 different varieties of apples are grown at the orchards, including Gala, Fuji, Honey Crisp, and Jonathan. Take home a bag for snacking or pick of a bushel of Macintosh, and add them to your favorite apple pie recipe. Not sure what to do with all the apples you picked? Check Crane’s apple storage tips!

If you prefer peach cobblers over apple pie, then you’re in luck. Crane Orchards peaches will be available to pick starting in early August, according to their website. Rising Star, Loring, and Starfire peaches are just a few of the 10 different varieties of Michigan peaches available! More information about the each variety grown can be found online. Just make sure to add a scoop of vanilla ice to your peach cobbler – the combination is unbeatable.

Last but not least, the Michigan cherry. Although picking season for the orchards’ sweet cherries is over for 2016, Crane’s grows six different kinds, including Cavaliers, Summits, and Reginas.

While the u-pick fruit at Crane Orchards is the main draw, there are plenty of other things to do, too! Covering 20 acres and offering the best in fall fun, the Corn Maze is highlight of fall at the orchards. Since 2002, the orchards have been hosting an exciting, themed corn maze. This year’s impressive design celebrates the property’s 100 year anniversary! Previous maze layouts include a Michigan State Trojans/University of Michigan Wolverines design in 2005, and a spooky Halloween design in 2006. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for children 6 to 10, and free for anyone younger.

If you want to learn more about the orchards, hop on board a hay ride! Tickets are cheap (only $3!), and are offered in the fall. Kids will love the Cow Train, too. Each cart on the train looks like a cow, offering children a fun ride around the orchards. Tickets are $2 per rider.
