Apple Blossom Chapel and Gardens is the premier wedding venue in western Michigan where you can begin your fairytale. Imagine walking down the aisle in the small country chapel with dear friends and family looking on. Or, recite your vows in the beautiful garden setting under the gazebo. Come, see for yourself how you can make your dream a reality.

Here at Lakeshore Lodging, we’re just minutes away from all of the best things to do in the area. If you’re looking for fun activities for the family to do ahead of the wedding, then check out our Area Information page for the best ideas.

Apple Blossom Chapel and Gardens is a Wonderful Wedding Venue

Set in an old apple orchard with apple trees over 100 years old, you can have the wedding of your dreams. The well-maintained property has plenty of great photo opportunities, including first-look photo ops. When you get married at Apple Blossom Chapel and Gardens, you’ll feel like you’re in a fairytale. You’ll be surrounded by tall trees, vibrant flowers, and a serene pond. Say, “I do,” under the iron-domed gazebo near the peaceful sound of a fountain. The grassy lawn makes a perfect place to set up chairs and invite everybody, and a stepping stone paved aisle is easy to walk.

The garden isn’t the only beautiful spot on site to be married.

Apple Blossom Chapel is charming and perfect for the small, more traditional wedding. Floral patterned carpets line the aisle and beveled glass windows make the chapel a beautiful ceremony venue. In addition, the chapel dressing room is ideal for the bride to get ready. The intimate chapel is great for those wanting a wedding in a small country chapel.

Have Your Reception, Too

For a smaller wedding, the patio is great for a cocktail-style reception with family and friends. You can enjoy the patio from May to October. For a larger wedding reception, the lawn is the perfect place. Rent a tent and receive up to 200 guests after the ceremony. You’ll love the whimsical setting of a reception on the lawn surrounded by blooming gardens.

Other Important Notes

Depending on the package, you have a choice of music systems, decorations for rent, chairs for the reception, flower girl basket, ring bearer pillow, twinkling string lights, a unity table, cupcake stand, and even a punch bowl. 4 of the Best Reasons to Spend Christmas in Michigan

christmas in michigan

If you’re planning a vacation in the winter, a state that experiences heavy snowfall annually like Michigan might not be at the top of your list. However, don’t let the precipitation scare you away – Michigan embodies every essential Christmas element. Cozy fireplaces, snowy evenings, and an atmosphere that encourages community and cheer: if you ask us, that sounds like the perfect place to spend Christmas 2016. There are a lot of things that we love about living in Michigan, and one of them is spending time with the ones closest to us over the holidays. Christmas in Michigan provides the perfect opportunity to do that, and if you stay with us in Saugatuck, you’ll see for yourself why we love it!

4 of the Best Reasons to Spend Christmas in Michigan

1. The Scenery

We’ll start with the most obvious reason: postcard-worthy scenery. What comes to mind when you think of Christmas? Presents, lights, and Santa aside, you might picture smoke rising from chimneys on snow-covered roofs, fir trees, and the gentle glow of streetlamps illuminating gentle snowfalls. That’s what you’ll find here. It’s hard to beat the views that we have in winter! Bundle up and explore the beauty that is Christmas in Michigan.

2. There’s Actually a Town Called Christmas in Michigan

Alright, we couldn’t resist listing this one. A town in Michigan that’s actually called Christmas? Yes, it exists, and yes, it’s celebration of all things Christmas! If you’re looking for the ornaments decorations or anything other Christmas related item, well, this is the place to be. The hotels in town capitalize on the name, and you can stay at places like Evergreen Cottage, White Pine Lodge, and Winter Dreamland. In the winter, snowmobiling is the activity of choice. Note: Christmas is quite a drive from Saugatuck (over six hours). We listed it here not as a local attraction, but more of a reason to visit our state during the holidays. And, well, how could we not talk about such a unique town?

3. Snow

If you live in a state that considers 70 degrees to be chilly, then Christmas for you probably involves palm trees, the sunshine, and flip-flops. There’s no better place to get your fill of snow – or experience it for the first time – than here in Michigan. That white powdery stuff that falls from the sky arrives in feet here, not inches, and transforms the Great Lakes State into a winter wonderland.

4. Christmas Celebrations in Saugatuck-Douglas

We saved the best for last. All across the state, you can find holiday festivals and craft shows, but if you want the best Christmas in Michigan experience, then make plans to visit Saugatuck. Between our lovely town and neighboring Douglas, we celebrate the season throughout the entire month of December! This Saugatuck-Douglas Christmas calendar is packed with great events for everyone. The fun gets going on Saturday, Dec. 3, with the Christmas Bazaar, Saugatuck’s “Whootville” Christmas Parade, and much more. That’s only the start of the fun! Other great events include Winterfest at Felt Mansion (Dec. 10), performances of Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” Wine Tasting at Felt Mansion (Dec. 17), Christmas Eve services, and a Christmas dinner! Visit the Saugatuck-Douglas events calendar for more information.

Here’s What You Need to Know About Felt Mansion

felt mansion

One of Michigan’s most popular tourist attractions is a stunning mansion located less than 20 miles away from Saugatuck. Built in the 1920s, Felt Mansion is an incredible structure, spanning over 12,000 square feet, located on the beautiful Felt Estate property. It’s just one of many great attractions a short drive from Saugatuck!

About Felt Mansion

According to the Felt Mansion website, Wisconsin native Dorr Eugene Felt built the mansion for his wife Agnes, starting in 1925 and finishing in 1928. Felt had invented a calculator called the Comptometer, and the device’s success had made him a millionaire. After Felt and his wife had passed away, the family held onto Felt Mansion before selling it in 1949. The following decades the saw the mansion and the Felt Estate be used first as a seminary and later a prison. Today, as stated on the mansion’s website, volunteers from surrounding communities are actively working to restore Felt Mansion to the excellent condition it would have been in in the 1920s.

The best way to experience the beauty of Dorr Felt’s mansion is with a tour! Take a public or private guided tour, and see for yourself the mansion’s incredible design and size. Felt Mansion houses 25 rooms, a ballroom, and more. Tours also include a history of the mansion and the equally impressive estate grounds, allowing you to experience what life for the Felt family was like. If you look at the photo gallery on the mansion’s website, you’ll get a glimpse at the amazing condition of the property.

Felt Mansion weddings are some of the most picturesque ceremonies that you’ll see, thanks to the mansion’s aesthetics! Picture yourself celebrating in the beauty of this massive, luxurious home, or on the grounds outside of it. Check out these videos of past receptions, and you the Felt Estate will be at top of your list of venue choices.

lake michigan romantic getaway

Sandy beaches and postcard-worthy views are staples of any romantic escape. But what if we told you that you didn’t have to travel to beach states or overseas to find that? What if the vacation you’ve been waiting to spend with a loved one was right here in the Great Lakes State? If it sounds too good to be true, don’t worry, because it isn’t. There are plenty of romantic getaways in Michigan! The next time you need an escape, consider the beautiful beach town of Saugatuck.

Located on the shores of Lake Michigan and home to the renowned Oval Beach, Saugatuck is the ideal destination for a vacation. That goes for couples looking for an escape, too! What makes Saugatuck one of the best romantic getaways in Michigan? A lot of things, but the most obvious one is the beach.
